The Fire That Broke Down At Souk Al-Hamidiyah

On April 27, 1912, a major fire broke out in the market, causing damage to most of the shops. The fire spread quickly due to the wooden roof, resulting in dozens of injuries and deaths, along with significant loss of goods. Afterward, they decided to replace the roof with one made of galvanized iron for fire protection.

The market extends to a branch called Souk Al-Misqiyah. It’s a market for books and stationery, located near the Al-Zahiriyah Library, built by Sultan Baibars. The area also houses important mosques and historic buildings.
